Basic Literacy Skills: Community Library & Computer Laboratory
The Kaleke Kasome Foundation (KAKAF) has established a community library and computer laboratory in Mpigi District to address the critical need for educational resources among children from marginalized communities. This initiative aims to bridge the gap for children who have little or no access to essential learning materials such as textbooks and computers.
A survey conducted in Mpigi District revealed that 25% of children in the area were born to teenage mothers. These mothers are often victims of defilement, rape, domestic violence, or forced early marriages, leaving them without the livelihood skills or education needed to support themselves or their children. As a result, many of these children face significant challenges in their academic journeys, especially in government-funded schools where resources are limited.
At KAKAF, we firmly believe that education is the most powerful tool for empowerment. It is the key to breaking cycles of poverty, enabling children from disadvantaged backgrounds to envision and achieve a brighter, more holistic future. Through the community library and computer laboratory, KAKAF provides a safe and resourceful environment where children can access learning materials, acquire basic literacy skills, and receive exposure to digital literacy.
This initiative not only supports academic success but also fosters confidence, resilience, and hope among children and their families. By investing in education, we are planting seeds of transformation that will empower generations to come.
